Welcome Second Graders
A wonderful Second Grade class full of learning and new adventures.
Welcome to 2nd Grade at Thomson Elementary School! I am so thrilled to be your child’s teacher and I know this will be a wonderful year! A quick introduction; my name is Mrs. Tonya Watts. I graduated from Southern Wesleyan University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Management and a Master’s Degree in Business Management. I have also earned my Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Georgia Regents University, and completed a Math, Reading, and Gifted Endorsement. Can you tell I like school? I love putting fresh new approaches into practice! I have been married for 19 years and I have a handsome 19 year old son and a beautiful 17 year old daughter.
For your child’s journey to be successful, it is essential for me to understand that each child is an unique individual with special qualities and needs. With the support of students and families, we will create a classroom environment that will recognize and respect individuality. To support each student’s learning, I will create a classroom that offers a variety of meaningful teaching styles so that each child will have the opportunity to succeed. The children will grow and learn at their own rate. I invite you to play an active role in your child’s education by talking with your child each day about their learning, reading together every night, and communicating with me. The best way to contact me during school hours would be www.remind.com or a quick note.
I want there to be open communication between us. If at anytime you have a question, I will be happy to speak with you as long it’s during my planning time or during a scheduled conference. I will not be available to discuss your child during instructional time. You can also write me a note, email me, and or www.remind.com me and I will try to respond as soon as possible. I want you to feel well informed throughout the year. Each day your child will bring home his/her Shine Binder. Your child’s Shine Binder will contain his/her work for the day, notes, and homework assignments that will be located within his/her agenda. Please check your child’s backpack daily for important letters and notes, and homework and sign the agenda daily. This can be a hard habit to get started, but well worth it! If you have any question, please feel free to contact me. Thanks in advance!
