Welcome to Thomson Elementary School!

I know that your child had a great experience at Maxwell Elementary and by working together he/she will continue to build that strong foundation here at Thomson Elementary School: Keeping in mind that our goal is to help him/her be academically successful as a second grader and prepared for third grade, which requires a great deal of independence on the part of the child.

I look forward to getting to know you and your child this year! This is my 30th year of teaching. I am married to my high school sweetheart. We have 2 children, a daughter that finished college and is beginning her teaching this year  and a son that is in high school. We attend Sweetwater Baptist Church. I love to read, paint, and work in my flower beds and Koi Fish pond. I also enjoy  collecting sea shells, sharks teeth, feathers, & rocks.

Second grade is sure to be an exciting year. Along with a new environment, second grade brings new experiences, new expectations and responsibilities. It is important that you and I help your child become more responsible for their own learning. This however, does not mean that we leave it all for him/her to do by themselves. I will guide your child in being organized with his/her materials and work space within the classroom. You will need to guide them on being organized in their notebook/agenda books, homework, book bags, and at home. I will teach them procedures and strategies to help them to think independently. You will need to require your child to use self- discipline and to follow rules and procedures that will allow him/her and all other students to maximize the learning environment. This is key in being successful academically.

Please do not ever hesitate to contact me by phone, email, or text, should you have any questions. If it is during the school day, I will get back to you as soon as possible (during planning, lunch, or at the end of the day).
